Hiroshima Today: More Than Just Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park

Let`s face it, when most people consider staying at hotels in Hiroshima city, whether for tour vacations or private travel the first question they are likely to ask is: “What are the current Hiroshima radiation levels?”

Well, rest assured that along with the approximately 1.2 million people that live there, you have nothing to worry about during your activities, travel or stay. 

However to say that it is just like any other Japanese city wouldn`t really do it justice. With the dropping of the atomic bomb, this amazing place has become an international symbol of peace. 

Having said that, you should visit not only the Peace Memorial Park, but also the vibrant downtown area as well. 

With its entrance near the Park, Hondori St. is a cool stretch of restaurants and shops about 500 meters (550 yards) long. Naturally there are a wide variety of restaurants downtown, but while there, make sure you try some local Okonomiyaki, the city`s specialty cuisine.

Cruising around the shops and grabing a bite to eat also makes for a nice break from the heavy atmosphere of the Peace Park.
