Kabukicho: Tokyo Nightlife Strikes Back.
Shinjuku At Night: Show Me The Money.
Located in Tokyo`s Shinjuku, Kabukicho is well known as one of the main centers of Tokyo nightlife. It sounds nice enough, Kabuki = traditional Japanese theatre. Let`s take the whole family.....
Or not. While the name of the town originates from a Kabuki theater that was planned (in the 1940`s) but never actually built, that`s where the association ends. In actuality, it is infamous as Tokyo`s red-light district. - Hostess bars? Check. - Host bars? (Can`t leave the ladies out) Check. - Strip clubs? Check. - Love Hotels? Check... And the list goes on. Basically anything goes and any salaryman`s fantasy can be fulfilled. But while the adult entertainment is mostly targeted towards Japanese men, naive foreigners are sometimes targeted by Africans, who will try and get you into their respective clubs. Is it safe? Well with a large number of security cameras and most parts of the area well lit, it is probably safer than you`d expect. If you are going to watch out for anything it should be for paying the stupidly high entry fees, sit down at the bar fees, crazy drink costs, or any number of ways that you can lose your cash. Needless to say, it`s interesting just walking around but enter at your own risk.
Daytime in Susukino During the day there is still plenty to do. There are heaps of movie theaters, amusement centers (video arcades), bowling, cafes, and shops.A good time to go is around 6pm when you can experience the best of both worlds.
